The Merge Dream Becomes Reality – DITA NA 2015

Visitors at the CMS/DITA Conference held in Chicago last week, saw first-hand the practical benefits of DeltaXML DITA Merge, with Tristan Mitchell’s talk ‘DITA branch and merge, a dream or a nightmare?’

A recurring session theme at the CMS/DITA Conference, which ran from 20th to 22nd April, was the area of content branching and release management. Tristan Mitchell, Solutions Architect at DeltaXML delivered a novel approach to new technology for improving release management, with his presentation entitled ‘DITA branch and merge, a dream or a nightmare?’

Tristan explains, “We wanted a clear message to come from our presentation on DeltaXML DITA Merge – branch merging of documents can be quick, easy and pain free using our tools. Branch and merge may be a software developer’s dream, but using the same technology with DITA documents can turn into a nightmare. The merge process is so often a manual one: cut and paste and get frustrated, but structured DITA merge can turn the nightmare back into a dream. DeltaXML DITA Merge was developed specifically to merge content repository branches back together or consolidate the edits of multiple authors into a single result.

Tristan adds, “We were delighted to work with IXIASOFT’s Jean- François Ameye who supported the presentation and demonstrated branch merging in practice using DeltaXML’s merge tool integrated into IXIASOFT’s DITA CMS. Our presentation was received with great interest, with the conference being a huge success for the team.
