Hi,

A partial answer, hopefully some of my colleagues who are travelling at the moment, will be able to help next week:

We are also developing a software which does 3-way XML diff & Merge. Now I Didn''t understand

1) Per server
2) Per user,

More info is provided in the license agreement and FAQ:

http://www.deltaxml.com/core/5.3.7/Licence.html
http://www.deltaxml.com/dxml/legal/licensing-qna.html

Basically for Named user:
- software is run/executed by the named individual (transfers allowed)
- "The Software may not be used to provide an automated service to another computing device or to any person other than the Designated User."
- it could be run by the user on one or more laptops, desktops or when the user is logged onto a multi-user server/terminal-services  system.

Server (''professional'' or ''enterprise'') licenses are associated with systems and are priced according to CPU/core counts.

Do we have to install this software on some server?

No, as above, named user could be used on any system and while server licenses are generally used on servers they could equally be used on a laptop system should you wish to.  However if you are concerned with the development phase of your project -please see below:

If it is per user, we are working in a team, do all the developers have to buy it?

If we are team of say 8-10 people, which one should we purchase (what do you prefer).

The license types that are available via the online/credit-card mechanism (''Named User'' and ''Professional Server'') are designed for automated fulfilment/processing and use software ''activation''.

We also have ''Enterprise Server'' and OEM licensing terms, the latter being appropriate if you wish to incorporate our software in products which you redistribute.  Here we avoid activation and rely on the more traditional signed agreements between company officers.
Our enterprise licenses offer more flexibility, this includes flexible terms for use on developer/test/fail-over/clustered systems and a more flexible approach to cores vs socketed CPUs.

Additionally we are usually flexible and will extend the periods of evaluation licenses when people contact us and discuss their development/intended use.

As to which type you should purchase - could I recommend you contact: sales@deltaxml.com and we could possibly follow-up with a phone call.

Evaluations of the enterprise (non-activated) licenses are also available by request.

What help we get if we buy per server ?

Professional server - support is via these forums.  Maintenance (for access to  new releases) is also available on a 12 monthly basis.

Enterprise server - additionally prioritised support via email/telephone.  We have specific support hours/timescales covered by a ''support agreement''.  Usually also includes maintenance and bug-fix releases.

The actual product (software developed) which uses this feature... can be used by many people that should make any difference right ?

Yes, server or OEM licensing may be appropriate.

Hope this helps,

Nigel

Hello,

Thanks for the quick answer.
We''re currently in the process of defining our needs and it may involve diff''ing and merging XML files.
There are a number of such tools available (both commercial and free software) which have different abilities and we are not sure yet which ones are required.

Your product is by far the most capable but we have to take the price into account, so I''ll need the exact price when I''ll make my report to chose between the different solutions.

I''ll look forward to the answers you''ll got from your meeting.

I must say that your web site is quite impressive, especially the demo available which help a lot to assess the product. But one thing you may improve is to have a permanent link to the pricing page : currently there is only a link from the main page (maybe I''m wrong ?). I''ve spent at least 10 mn to navigate through the different menu because I''ve missed the link when I first got on the main page...

June 27, 2007 18:29We'll fix the pricing page and discuss more options
Hello John,

I want to be able to do a 3 way merging, so I suppose that I need DeltaXML Sync.
But on the pricing page, DeltaXML Sync is only offered as anadd-on to Core Enterprise,
not Core Professional (and I haven''t really understood the price either).

Yes, on reflection the wording could be improved.
We will get this improved over the next day or two.
Sync is not a core ''add on'' but it stand-alone product.
It does 3 way change processing only.

I can''t afford to buy the Core Enterprise, but I could buy the Core Professional,
so would it be possible to purchase Core Professional + Sync ?

We do not currently have Sync Professional Named-User or Professional Server offerings;  I will bring
up your request with our sales and marketing people at a meeting
on Friday.  In the meantime Sync (and Core) evaluations are available;  if any
of the Named-User/Server limitations (such as node or CPU limits)
make your evaluation difficult let us know and we will
provide an enhanced activation key.

And would it be possible to have a better understandable pricing page (especially about Sync).

Yes - we''ll improve the wording on the web page.

Thanks again for the input,

Nigel

Hello,

I''m rather interested by purchasing DeltaXML but I''m rather confused by the pricing page.

Thanks a lot,
