[5 of 9] Changes to Text and Word-By-Word Comparison
Changes to Text and Word-By-Word Comparison
Changes to text are wrapped in a deltaxml:PCDATAmodify element in the delta format. Within this, a deltaxml:PCDATAold element contains the text from the first (old) document and deltaxml:PCDATAnew element contains the text from the second (new) document. One or other of these last two elements may be empty, as shown
in these worked examples:
- click ORIGINAL to return to the original values.
- click ADD TEXT to see that when text is added, the
deltaxml:PCDATAoldelement is empty. - click DELETE TEXT to see that when text is deleted, the
deltaxml:PCDATAnewelement is empty. - click MODIFY TEXT to see that when text is modified, both elements are populated.
You will see that in the above examples, the text is treated as a single block and not divided into words. In the last example the text is treated as a block, but if you check the 'Word By Word' box you will see the word-by-word result.
You can see from these results that the delta format preserves both the old and new data, so the result that you require can be generated from either or both of these by processing the delta document. All these examples use the full context delta because word-by-word changes cannot be used with a changes-only delta.
